What is a Podiatrist?

A podiatrist is a Doctor of of podiatric medicine, a medical professional who has specialised in the lower limb.

What is a Foot Health Practitioner?

A FHP carries out general duties to keep feet healthy and working.

Routine

Includes a full lower leg and foot examination, vascular assessments for blood flow, neurological assessments for feeling and strength. Treatment will include routine conditions for example nail cutting/filing, callus debridement, corn enucleation and thick nail reduction. Prevention is best, routine treatment is crucial for our feet to stay healthy, active and pain free.

Heel cracks/fissures

Includes debridement, filing and rigorous emollient therapy. Often a result of extremely dry skin and a contribution of heel fat pad pressure.

Ingrown toenail / surgery

Different treatment options will be offered, such as cutting the nail back correctly, and seeing how the nail regrows, or removing all or part of the toenail under local anaesthic and destroying the nail bed to prevent nail regrowth. Ingrown toenails can be caused by things such as nail trauma, poor nail cutting, ill-fitting shoes. Ingrown toenails can be extremely painful commonly becoming infected.

Diabetic Check and Risk Status

Includes vascular assessments for blood flow to the lower limb, neurological sensory tests, risk status and advice.

Verrucae Assessment and Treatment discussion

Verrucae’s can be painful and are often easyily spread. Verrucae can be misdiagnosed it is important to have the verrucae checked prior to treatment. Treatment options will be advised upon examination.

Fungal Nail/Skin Assistance

Includes nail reduction, advice on treatment, if severe surgery can be considered. Fungal skin treatment can include debridement and filing along with treatment advice.

Fingernail trimming

Includes nail trimming, callus debridement and filing – if minimal. There will be an extra charge if excessive callus debridement is required. This can be a stand alone session or combined with another treatment.

Biomechanical Assessment

Includes a visual gait assessment. Assessments may determine if the issues is muscular, nerves, joints or a combination, linking symptoms and foot function.
